Dr. Carl Weiss Named Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery
Auburn Memorial Hospital’s (AMH) Dr. Carl Weiss III, M.D., Ph.D., was recently named a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Dr. Weiss is the director of the Finger Lakes Weight Loss Program at AMH as well as the hospital’s Chief of Surgery.
To date, Dr. Weiss has performed 142 Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgeries and 14LAP-BAND® procedures at the Finger Lakes Weight Loss Program. Over his career, Dr. Weiss has done more than 380 gastric bypass surgeries. The Program holds informational sessions, led by Dr. Weiss, on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the hospital’s auditorium
The ASMBS is the largest society for this specialty in the world. It encompasses approximately 3,060 members; includes general surgeons, allied health care professionals practicing in the field of bariatric surgery.
The purpose of the society is to advance the art and science of bariatric surgery by continued encouragement of its members to carry out the following mission:
- To improve the care and treatment of people with obesity and related diseases.
- To advance the science and understanding of metabolic surgery.
- To foster communication between health professional on obesity and related conditions.
- To be the recognized authority and resource on metabolic and bariatric surgery.
- To advocate for health care policy that ensures patient access to high quality prevention and treatment of obesity.
- To be a highly valued specialty society that serves the educational and professional needs of our diverse membership.
